Lady Justice
Lady Justice holding scales is a symbol of law that is one of the most recognizable for most people. But what exactly does it represent? There are three main pieces of the this icon that demonstrate the ideals that we should uphold as guardians of the law.
Info about Lady Justice
Scales
The scales show balance. Essentially they are used to represent weighing facts and evidence. Once these items are presented evenly only then can a verdict be determined.
Blindfold
The blindfold is a symbol of being impartial and “blind” to items outside of what affects defending the law. This means that justice should be upheld no matter what extenuating circumstances are involved.
Sword
The sword on Lady Justice is used to represent authority. This means after being impartial (the blindfold) and weighing all the facts (the scales) legal authority is used to determine the proper consequences.
